How to get here
From
Dullstroom: Go straight
through Dullstroom on the Lydenburg road (R540). Windy Tarn is exactly 15
kilometers from Rose Cottage in Dullstroom. Keep an eye on the distance
stones on the right hand side of the road, which show your distance from
Lydenburg. The one outside our farm gate is 37/8. On your way
between Dullstroom and Windy Tarn look out for the following: About 5km from
Dullstroom you pass a turn to Kruisfontein. Some 3km further you’ll see the De
Berg turnoff to the left with a big white stone called “mbokodo”. Pass by
this and, after a curve to the right, you will see three dams on the left hand
side of the road. On the right is the Owl and Oak Trading Post. A little further
on is the turnoff to Walkerson’s. You pass this, go down a dip to a bridge and
then climb for about 4km with three dams on the left. At the crest of a rise
you’ll see a sign for the Thaba Chweu Municipality and a little further on is
a sign warning lorries to change to low gear. Windy Tarn is just after this on
the right hand side. Please
watch for cars coming up from behind. People behind you will not expect you to
turn right and
a safer bet may be to pull carefully over to the left hand side until they have
passed. Look for the double gate on the right-hand side with white stones lining
the entrance. It is just at the 37/8-kilometer stone, about 10 metres after the
low-gear sign. Some 200m from the main road turn left into the old dirt road. Go
through the big gate and straight down to the main house. From
Lydenburg: When you have exited Lydenburg, turn right onto the
Dullstroom
road (R540) and keep an eye on the kilometre distance stones on the left hand
side. Windy Tarn’s gate is on the left at the 37/8 stone, indicating that we
are exactly 37.8km from Lydenburg.
